Random Thoughts I recently received a number of questions with regard to personal cameras. I'll be honest, I'm not the one to ask. There are so many features that are important when buy a personal camera that are not even a consideration when I buy a professional one, like size, weight and zoom factors. Connie Evans at Bel Air Camera is a great source for information on personal digital cameras...her number is 310-208-5150. Let her know that I referred you. Have you noticed that everyone is doing a red carpet event these days. Someone should create a red carpet kit as consumer product, you know, lights, red carpet, velvet rope a Hollywood looking backdrop, Celebrity names that will never show on a guest list, etc,. Don't forget to send me a finder's fee. Many of you have asked how the purchase of WireImage by Getty Images has affected my work. It hasn't.......so far. WireImage has grown from an image resource for publications to a destination site for anyone wanting to know what is going on around the world. What's next? Sterling Williams launched their website which I was fortunate to shoot. Amy Y Jewelry has added more of my images. House Inc. has re-launched their site where my work can be seen. The collage above is the new opening image for my "Favorites" gallery that is available on my site. I will display new images periodically. As I pursue more commercial photography assignments these galleries will become more defined. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. A Holiday Thought about Charities

With so many charity events and causes in the books so far this holiday season, I couldn't help but notice the how the business of Charity has grown. I do have keen sense of the obvious. The old saying..."Charity begins at home", may be true, but it certainly has found a new vacation home on Wall Street.

Are we that committed to helping others that the time has come to commercialize our good nature on this scale? I use to know only a handfull of people who were working for a charities, now everyone seem to be part of one is some way or another. The other day I met someone who just bought a new house.....I asked "So you work for a charity, is that part or full time work." She responded "Oh it's full time work and I make a good living at it." Great, so we've figured out how to make maintain our way of life and make a good living by feeding starving people around the world. I can just imagine a human resources campaign that's trying to recruit new college grads......"Get rich, feed the poor".

It also seems that the holiday season itself has grown too. I remember when my parents use to say, "OK Thanksgiving is over, now get ready for the Christmas ads and store displays ", now Santa competes for shelf space with Dracula costumes and the Clydesdales barely make it through Octoberfest without have a snowball fight. What's next Santa lighting off fireworks while waving the American flag?

I stopped and asked myself the other day; "Are more people, by percentage, getting help in the world today, than there were ten or twenty years ago?" Perhaps there is someone out there who can answer that, but it's certainly not me.

I did shoot an event recently that stopped me cold. The Christmas Party by the Fulfillment Fund at UCLA for children with special needs. The look on the faces of these kids told me they were having the best day of their lives. Cheers to the Fulfillment Fund for doing that every year and makeing a difference.

Don't forget....January 1st, there will only be 364 days of shopping left.

My possessions have possessed me so I'm having the Garage Sale of the Century.......Years of collecting have come to an end, well for now anyway, and it's time to sell it all. Antiques, oil paintings, movie posters, rugs, old radios, steamer trunks, tube amps, vintage signs, 1st edition books, film cameras, records, electronics, furniture, vintage clothes, antique metal toys...you name it. Three garages full of treasures for everyone. Far too much to describe in detail.

I love this picture of Eddie Van Halen because his face is a memory of years gone by that reminds me today how human we all really are. Vulnerability, happiness and seniority were all present for Eddie Van Halen when he took stage recently and House of Petals.

The above Al Pacino image has been sitting around for awhile, but it wasn't until recently when Tommy Bruno from 21 Magazine re-touched it that the image came to life. The original lighting and distracting background kept the viewer from seeing the life this image had to offer. Now look at him....if you wait long enough, he just might turn and smile.

It’s Susan Blackmon here bringing you inside “the industry” with scoops and skinny from my Hollywood adventures. Let’s get to the fun stuff. Jenny McCarthy on a recent trip to Lake Tahoe’s Harrah’s Casino was on the receiving end rude insults from a high-roller who was quite drunk. I would have kicked the guy in the nuts and left the casino….Jenny however, being the pro that she is, shook it off, walked the red carpet and hung out at VEX (Harrah’s night club) with Carmen Electra. I heard she even walked the cat walk with Carmen and cheered the club goes on! Sometimes the celebs cut loose when they’re out of town….I can’t remember ever seeing that from two “A” listers in LA. Moving on…

…Emmy’s, gifting suites, fashion shows and launch parties were definitely the theme for the month. Two suites that I got to follow were Primary Action’s and The Silver Spoon’s, who both hosted luxury gifting events bringing celebs like the “about to drop” Britney Spears, Felicity Huffman, Pink, Matthew Perry, Nicky and Paris Hilton, Sophia Bush, Brett Ratner, Rachael Hunter, The Duffs, with a variety of products for them to choose from. These LUXURY gifting suites spared no expense, with locations like Libarace’s former penthouse and the Wattles mansion, DJ’s, Open bars – they do just about ANYTHING to make sure the celebs are happy. Hot spots for all of you to hit this month are FASHION

...recently hosted Eddie Van Halen for a private concert. I did have a photo up here of Eddie until I remembered what he said. "This evening is all about House of Petals", so there, and he was right. Thought

Cruising through life I find that the people I dreamed I could be rapidly deminishing to all that is left but who I am and who I've always been.... a photographer and writer...now things are clear and my dreams are fulfilled.

Current Book Project

I've loved this tree for such a long time, but just couldn't figure out what to do about it. So standing on the roof of my house I thought, why not do a book and take pictures from where I am and call it "From the Roof of My House"..... and so it goes.

The place to be!

Citizen Smith....Uber-chef Taylor Boudreaux tantalizing cuisine is only rivaled by Thomas Schoos breathtaking design. This photo diserve to be much larger; picked for its detail and movement.

Models & Mirrors

They go hand in hand, but I'm not so sure that in this case the mirror wasn't a little sad only to be a reflection. This was "Next Top Model's" Lisa D'Amato's idea, it will be mine next time. I chose this image becasue of it allows us to be intimate and voyeuristic and the same time. This shot captured during the White Boy fashion show at The Joint.

Crash on your mind

I Couldn't help but remember this moment at Sundance when Terrance Howard, took time out to support the "Clothes of Our Back" charity while "Crash" was be screened. Well before the success of the film, this actor focused doing something that helps others. I chose this image because of ease at which he holds his intensity, that's Terrance Howard.

People Magazine

WireImage photographers often get these results, but this one resonates. During the opening of Leona Edmiston's on Sunset Paula impressed me with her generosity toward others. Not just smiles and handshakes, but real compasion with stangers, sponsors and friends alike. Now look at that smile.

Canon on Canon

The Canon MKII with the 85mm f1.2 is not only what's being photographed, it's also what's being used to take this picture of Chris Weeks. His work is extraordinary!
